Morgantown — The Morgantown Public Library System is proud to present StoryFest—a day of nonstop fun for people of all ages. Join us on Saturday, June 6 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Spruce Street Pavilion (located at 400 Spruce Street). Our festival celebrates storytelling in all its forms, and this year we’re making stories come to life in a Fairytale Forest. StoryFest includes free crafting stations to create your own fairy door, gnome mushroom hat, bookmark and more. Kids, teens and adults are all sure to find something to love.
For children, we will have a Fairytale Field where storytellers will share classic fairy tales in interactive ways. The only thing more fun than hearing stories like Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk is being a part of them. We will also have a variety of giveaways and activity tables hosted by Early Head Start, the Shack Neighborhood House, United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties, Parents’ Place, the City of Morgantown Human Rights Commission, and the West Virginia Black Bears.
For literature lovers of all ages, you can get a free poem written on the spot from The Bards of Yellow Wood, buy a blind date with a book from Brook’s Books and Creations, and even participate in a book trade sponsored by The Silent Book Club of Morgantown. Are you a collector? Come meet our trinket trader who will give you a trinket to treasure in exchange for book recommendations.
For the grown ups, there will be amazing authors and creators to meet including Ashley Marie, Joy E. Held, Madalyn Leigh, Michael Roth and AmeMadz Publishing. Check out local bookshops like Pinocchio’s Books and Toys and Strange Light Coffee and Books.
Abby Cyphert, the library’s outreach and programs coordinator, is as always thrilled to organize StoryFest. Abby says, “This year marks the 100th year of continuous library services! That’s 100 years of storytelling and providing essential resources to our community. We can’t wait to celebrate this birthday with all of our amazing patrons by bringing stories to life, celebrating local authors and book sellers, shining the spotlight on nonprofits, and cutting a birthday cake to share with all of our friends.” Free cake will be handed out at 5 p.m., while supplies last.
