Ready Freddie: Almost Queen kicks off summer concert series tonight

Can anybody find me … something to do in Morgantown tonight?

If you find yourself asking that question, walk, drive, ride your bicycle to the Ruby Amphitheater for opening night of the Ruby Summer Concert Series presented by the city of Morgantown and the Hazel Ruby McQuain Charitable Trust.

This evening’s lineup begins at 7 p.m. with Elton John tribute Philadelphia Freedom followed by Almost Queen, an homage to the Freddie Mercury-fronted four piece that’s, ahem, guaranteed to blow your mind.

Entering its fifth summer, the nationally recognized summer concert series drew more than 50,000 people downtown last summer for free Friday night tunes.

This year’s lineup includes featured artists Leftover Salmon (June 12); Everclear (June 19); Tonic (June 26); Switchfoot (July 17); The War and Treaty (July 24); The Fabulous Thunderbirds (July 31); Hanson (Aug. 14); Ashley Cooke (Aug. 21); 38 Special (Aug. 28) and respected tribute acts Dark Side of the Moonshine (Pink Floyd – July 10) and Who’s Bad (Michael Jackson – Aug. 7).

A variety of vendors will be on site selling food and drinks during each event. Coolers can be carried into the park, but glass bottles are not permitted.

The concerts are rain or shine events, and all seating is first come, first served.
