MORGANTOWN — West Virginia football and offensive line coach Rick Trickett earned its first offensive line commit for the class of 2027. 3-star offensive lineman Ethan Lawson announced he’s committed to the Mountaineers on social media, where he lit a couch on fire in the process.
Lawson is a big 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive lineman who is still in high school. He fits the exact build that Rich Rodriguez and Trickett are looking for in this new-look offensive line. He benches 475 pounds and squats 600 pounds. Lawson is a unit.
His metrics drew a lot of interest from multiple Division I schools, like Duke, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Louisville and Syracuse. Lawson is the 16th-highest rated player in Virginia and the 45th-highest rated interior offensive lineman in the class. He has an official visit with the Mountaineers on June 12.
This is WVU’s 14th recruit for the class of 2027, and it was the third commit on Tuesday. He’s the second-best recruit in the class. The Mountaineers flipped 3-star Kentucky running back Bryian Duncan Jr. in the morning. In the afternoon, Rodriguez picked up his first commit for the 2028 class with linebacker Brandon Wills-Dickson.
There should be more commits in the coming days, with big official visits coming up in the coming weeks. The hype around WVU is at an all-time high right now with the success of the baseball team and the spotlight on the Country Roads tradition.
