MORGANTOWN — West Virginia football scored a highly-recruited defensive lineman for the class of 2027. Zai’Vion Meads announced on social media that he had committed to the Mountaineers Sunday night. The Louisville, Kentucky, native had offers from Nebraska, Purdue, Baylor and Missouri.
Meads is a big 6-foot-3 defensive lineman who had a productive junior season at Atherton High School. He had 87 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and nine sacks. Meads was named first team all-District for his performance. Even at 280 pounds, he can get off tackles and track down the quarterback.
Meads is rated as the 17th-best player in Kentucky and the 113th-best defensive lineman in the 2027 class. He had multiple official visits lined up, but landed on the Mountaineers after an official visit on May 29.
The Louisville native is the 12th commitment for the 2027 class for WVU. He’s the third defensive lineman, joining lineman DaJour Webb and pass rusher Trevoris Finley. Meads is the eighth defensive player in the class, which seems to be a focus this cycle.
