Phyllis Welch Britton

Phyllis Welch Britton, 91 of Morgantown, died Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
She was born April 18, 1935 in Mellin WV, a daughter of the late John R. and Mary M. Welch of Harrisville WV.
She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Morgantown. She was a life member of the Service League of Morgantown and a life member of the Monongalia General Hospital Auxiliary, volunteering in the gift shop and cardiac rehabilitation department. She was a member of the Mountaineer Women’s Club. She graduated from Sissonville High School in 1953 and from WVU with a bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Health. She taught school at Clay Battelle in the late 50s and early 60s. She retired from WVU (1997) as a Staff Associate to the Dean of Nursing. In her free time, she enjoyed baking and bird watching.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Jack L. Britton; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Alan Wise of Morgantown; and one son Jack Lee Britton of York, SC. Also surviving is her close friend Jean Holter of Morgantown.
She is also survived by three nieces and spouses; one nephew and spouse; and four great- nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her two brothers, John R. Welch Jr., and Charles A. Welch, both of Harrisville WV. Also preceding her were her sister Rena Haddad and her husband Robert Haddad of Charleston WV, and sister-in-law Virginia Gough and her husband Jerry Gough of Dunedin FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Morgantown Area Meals on Wheels, 3375 University Ave., Morgantown WV 26505.
Friends and family will be received at Hasting Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, on Monday, May 25th from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ben Erzkus officiating. A private graveside committal will take place at a later date at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
