MORGANTOWN – Monongalia County Schools is now officially looking for a replacement on the Board of Education to fill the vacancy following Christina Fattore Morgan’s sudden resignation last week.
A written letter or notice of interest may be submitted to Superintendent Eddie Campbell Jr. by 4 p.m. May 29, the BOE said.
Submissions may be mailed to the superintendent’s office at 1751 Earl L. Core Road, Morgantown, WV 26505. Inquiries may also be emailed to teresa.nass@k12.wv.us or dropped off in person.
The search is open to applicants who reside either in Mon’s Eastern or Western districts, as per eligibility requirements established by state law and county board policy.
You must hold at least a high school diploma or GED or Test Assessing Secondary Completion diplomas to be considered.
Applicants may not be employed as a teacher or service worker in Mon Schools and cannot hold another public office while serving on the board.
Same for serving on a political party executive committee – or as a delegate, alternate or proxy at a national political party convention.
To be considered, an applicant may not be a candidate for another public office while seeking to serve on the BOE.
Soliciting or receiving contributions on behalf of partisan candidates or campaigns is also prohibited.
Morgan was midway through her first term on the board.
Meanwhile, current BOE president Mike Kelly and fellow incumbents Jennifer Hagerty and Dan Berry all handily won in their bid for reelection during the state’s primary election last week.
County voters also overwhelmingly voted in the affirmative to renew the district’s excess levy for education, which was also on the ballot.
The board now has a 45-day window to appoint a replacement, going from Morgan’s May 13 resignation.
It’s also a week of pomp and circumstance for the district.
Completers from MTEC, the Monongalia County Technical Education Center go forth Wednesday. Mylan Park’s Hazel and J.W. Ruby Community Center is the site for the proceedings, which will be at 7 p.m. that day.
Seniors at Morgantown High School, University High and Clay-Battelle will pick up their diplomas during Friday’s countywide commencement, will be on the athletic fields of the three schools, also at 7 p.m.
The National Weather Service is calling for an 80% chance of rain that evening.
