Debra Kay Green

It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived that the family of Debra Kay Green announce her peaceful passing from this world Friday, May 15, 2026 on a serene early morning at her home, surrounded by love.
Born September 29, 1953 in Morgantown, Debra was a beacon of warmth, kindness and generosity, whose spirit touched countless lives.
Debra was the cherished daughter of the late Steve and Betty Cleaver Smith, who predeceased her and greeted her with open arms beyond this world.
Her beloved husband, Donald Green; and her son, Donald L. J. Green, II; along with her brothers, Robert John Smith and Philip Smith, also preceded her in death. Their memories, however, live on in the hearts of those who knew them, and in the stories Debra shared with her family.
A devoted and nurturing soul, Debra’s life was enriched by her companion, Raymond Scott, who was by her side providing love and comfort. She also leaves behind her loving daughter, Barbara and son-in-law Ron Dirba; and devoted son, John and daughter- in-law Kellie Green.
Her legacy continues through her four grandchildren, Kelley and husband Vic Riley, Jonah and husband Justin Chechuck, Sean Green and Kyle Green; as well as her precious great-grandchild, Victor Riley, who brought immense joy to her days.
Debra’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family. She played a significant role in the lives of her two nieces, Nancy and Brenda Smith, whom she helped raise with the same love and care she bestowed upon her own children. Her home was always open, and her heart even more so, especially to animals, which she adored and cared for passionately.
Known for her boundless kindness and generous heart, Debra was a friend to all creatures and people she encountered. Her love for animals was not merely a hobby, but a testament to her compassionate nature – a quality that inspired those around her to be more caring and considerate. She was a mother to many, in every sense of the word, offering guidance, warmth and an unwavering support to friends and family alike.
As we bid farewell to Debra Kay Green, we celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the remarkable legacy she leaves behind. Her kindness, her generosity, and her love for life will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though she has left this physical world, her spirit remains ever present in the lives she touched.
Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, Monday, May 18, from 5 to 8 p.m., and Tuesday, May 19, from 10 until the 11 a.m. hour of service, where family and friends can gather to share memories, stories, and the lasting impact she left on this world. She will be dearly missed and forever cherished.
Interment follows in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests donations, in Debra’s memory, to local animal shelters honoring her deep love for animals and continuing her legacy of compassion.
