MORGANTOWN – The Dominion Post has confirmed that the Monongalia County Commission is finalizing an agreement that will move the Monongalia County Health Department to White Birch Towers, located at 1311 Pineview Drive.
White Birch Towers is located across the street a short distance from the JD Anderson Drive entrance to Mon Health Medical Center.
The new location is not an unfamiliar one.
The MCHD will be moving into Tower II, which became the home of the health department’s WIC program in early 2025.
If all goes as expected, WVU Hospitals will soon be the owner of the health department’s current home – approximately 2.25 acres in the heart of WVUH’s expanding campus.
After years of hot-and-cold negotiations between the county and WVUH, the county posted the property for sale April 22 with an asking price equal to the greater of $6 million or 75% of the property’s appraised value ($4,135,000).
Two weeks later, the commission announced it had a single offer – $6 million from WVU Hospitals.
The commission has two items on its upcoming agenda relevant to the move.
The first is a real estate purchase agreement with White Birch Properties, LLC.
The second is a real estate purchase and sale agreement and associated no-cost leaseback agreement with WVU Hospitals.
The Dominion Post reached out to the commission regarding the terms of the purchase agreement with White Birch Properties, but was told those details are not finalized and may not be in time for Wednesday’s meeting.
If that’s the case, both items will be pulled from the agenda and pushed to a later meeting.
Per the terms of the sale, the health department must be out of its current facility by July 1, 2027.
