Monongalia County, WV — The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office has concluded a search and recovery operation at Coopers Rock State Forest on Thursday afternoon.
The incident began at approximately 12:45 p.m., when deputies were dispatched to the state forest, at which time the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office immediately coordinated a multi-agency search effort to canvas the rugged terrain.
Assisting the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office in the search were:
· Mon County EMS
· Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department
· Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Department
· Morgantown Area Rescue Group (MARG)
· West Virginia State Parks Officials
At approximately 2:45 p.m., search teams located the individual within the forest. It is with deep regret that we report the individual was found deceased.
The identity of the deceased is currently being withheld out of respect for the family’s privacy and to ensure all notifications are completed. While the recovery phase of this operation has concluded, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death remains active and no further details regarding the cause of death are available at this time.
