MORGANTOWN – At approximately 7:45 a.m. this morning, Mountaineer Middle School was placed on a “Code Yellow” status as a precautionary measure. The action was taken following reports of an individual carrying visible weapons while walking in the general direction of the school campus.
Deputies from the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office responded immediately to the area and located the individual in question. Following a brief investigation, it was determined that the individual was a hunter returning to his residence after a morning of turkey hunting.
The investigation confirmed that the individual was never in close proximity to the school grounds, and at no point were students or staff in any danger.
Mountaineer Middle School has since resumed normal operations. The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the school administration for their quick action and the public for their vigilance in reporting suspicious activity.
