Jay L. Hunt

Jay L. Hunt, 74, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Morgantown. He was born November 5, 1951, in Fort Dix, N.J. to the late Arden Hunt and Virginia Pratt Hunt.
Jay was a dedicated and hardworking employee, devoting 27 years of service to the West Virginia University Physical Plant, a testa-ment to his steady work ethic and reliability. After this, Jay spent time as a truck driver.
He had a love for hobby collections, par-ticularly coins and model cars, and enjoyed attending car shows, including the Carlisle Car Show. He was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders, the Pitts-burgh Steelers, and the West Virginia University Mountaineers.
Additionally, Jay had a deep interest in Civil War history, with a particular admiration for the Battle of Gettysburg.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Carolyn Powell Hunt; son, Jason Hunt; step-daughters, Cindy Barnett and Tina Barnett Weaver (Victor); along with six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his par-ents, Jay was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Billie Jo Johnson Barnett; brothers, Abner Thomas “Tommy” Hunt and Arden M. Hunt, Jr.
He leaves behind a family and community who will honor his memory with deep respect and lasting affection.
Friends and family will be received in Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Thursday, April 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. Visitation will continue in the funeral home Fri-day, May 1, from 10 until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Nathaniel Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Nicholson Cemetery.
