Furgison stepping down as finance director, city posts airport opening

MORGANTOWN – Morgantown Finance Director Jon Furgison has informed the city that he is moving on after less than two years in the role.

Furgison took over the city’s finance office on July 15, 2024. Prior to that, he spent approximately four years with Mon Health System.

According to the city, Furgison is stepping down to pursue a new professional opportunity.

His final day with the city will be May 20.

“City administration is deeply appreciative of the leadership improvements, and lasting contributions he made during his tenure, and we wish him continued success in his next chapter,” Communications Specialist Hollie Gregory said.

Prior to Furgison’s 22-month tenure, Kevin Tennant spent about three years leading the city’s finance office.

Just as the finance position opens up, the city will be in the process of filling another director-level vacancy – this one at the Morgantown Municipal Airport.

ADK Consulting & Executive Search has been hired to assist the city in finding its next airport director.

According to the job posting, which went live Monday, ADK is accepting applications until May 24.

“To support a thorough search for applicants, the City has contracted with ADK Consulting & Executive Search at a cost of $47,574 to assist in identifying and attracting highly qualified candidates,” Gregory explained. “The firm brings extensive experience in aviation industry recruitment, along with services such as placement guarantee, helping to ensure both quality candidates and long-term success in the role.”

Assistant City Manager Emily Muzzarelli has been overseeing operations of the airport since the city confirmed in early February that former Director Jon Vrabel was no longer in the position.

Vrabel had been in the director role since September 2019, when he was selected from a pool of 42 candidates to helm the municipally owned airport.

According to The Dominion Post archive, ADK Consulting & Executive Search also conducted the 2019 search that resulted in Vrabel’s hiring. The base cost of that search was $19,600.

The starting salary for the airport director position is listed as $100,000 to $125,000 dependent on qualifications and experience.
