Point Marion
Bernie Yednock, of Point Marion, died Sunday, April 12, 2026, in his home. He was a son of the late Joseph and Anna Yednock and the youngest and last surviving of 12 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Yednock; daughter, Amy Kaplan; son, Joel Yednock and wife Stacy; and one granddaughter, Daniella Herrera.
Bernie was a graduate of the former Point Marion High School, and West Virginia University, with degrees in forestry and wildlife management.
He wrote a book entitled “Blackfeet Pete and Me”, which describes Bernie’s early life in Montana as a forester working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the U.S. Forest Service. During that time, he lived with the Blackfeet Indian tribe in Montana. The book details multiple exciting and dangerous events of Bernie’s life while living in Montana, including the tragic loss of Blackfeet citizens during the most destructive flood of Montana’s history in 1964, as well as many other interesting stories of life with the Blackfeet.
Bernie returned home from Montana and met his beautiful wife in 1971. He loved the outdoors, and worked for the Soil and Water Conservation Society, and later was a consulting forester and timber consultant.
He was a member of St. Mary and St. Francis Catholic churches in Morgantown, and proud of his Christian faith. He was a true outdoorsman and avid hunter and fisherman. His greatest love was his family, whom he adored and cherished.
Bernie and the Yednock family would like to extend a special thank you to all the doctors, nurses, WVU Home Health and Hospice workers, and those who provided him with wonderful care over the past few years.
Services were held in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion, with his friend, Andy Switzer officiating. Interment was in the family plot at Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion.
