Ross Hodge adds former Georgia Tech center Mouhamed Sylla from the transfer portal

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia has secured another major piece to the basketball roster build with a commitment from Georgia Tech center transfer Mouhamed Sylla.

Sylla, 6-foot-10, 240-pounds, is coming off a freshman season with the Yellow Jackets where he averaged 9.6 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 57.9-percent across 16 games. He missed time this past year due to an ankle injury but is a high-upside addition on both ends of the floor.

The athletic big man also averaged 1.2 blocks per game and brings that presence as a rim protector that runs the floor well and is equipped with a high motor.

His length makes him a plus rebounder and he has the potential to be an immediate difference maker in the paint given all that he brings to the table.

Sylla is originally from Senegal.

Sylla was the top ranked center according to Rivals in the 2025 class and was the 18th ranked prospect nationally. He initially picked Georgia Tech over offers from Kansas, Arkansas, Oregon, Arizona State and a number of others.

The transfer center was a top target for the Mountaineers once the transfer portal opened and is the latest former CIA Bella Vista prospect to pick the program following true freshmen point guard Miles Sadler and center Aliou Dioum in the 2026 class.

The addition of Sylla gives head coach Ross Hodge a key piece in the front court as the Mountaineers continue to build the framework of what the 2026-27 roster will look like next season.

Sylla becomes the third transfer commitment for Hodge and company since the portal opened following Boise State forward Javan Buchanan and Butler guard Finley Bizjack.

Sylla has three years of eligibility remaining in his career.
