MORGANTOWN — The roster rebuild at West Virginia is underway with the basketball program already adding a pair of experienced commitments out of the transfer portal.
The Mountaineers have landed Boise State forward Javan Buchanan and Butler guard Finley Bizjack as head coach Ross Hodge and his coaching staff look to retool the roster.
Buchanan, 6-foot-7, 230-pounds, is coming off a season where he averaged 12.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 42-percent from the field and 32-percent from three.
Those efforts earned him honorable mention all-Mountain West honors. That followed a season where he was named the Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year, averaging 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and shooting 53-percent from the floor.
The Indiana native started his career at Indiana Wesleyan, where he spent two seasons and was named a NAIA All-American as a sophomore, averaging 20.5 points per contest.
Buchanan made his decision following an official visit to campus and is a versatile option that can score at all three levels and is an 82–percent free throw shooter.
Bizjack, 6-foot-4, 190-pounds, became a key target after he entered the portal for West Virginia and the program was able to get him in the fold following his official visit April 12.
The crafty guard ranked No. 3 in the Big East this season in scoring, averaging 17.1 points per game. In 31 games, Bizjack also had 2.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, while shooting 42.6-percent from the floor and 34.9-percent from three-point range.
Those efforts made him a third-team all-Big East selection.
Bizjack has spent all three years at Butler and his game has continued to develop. He has played in 98 games during his time with the Bulldogs and he is equipped to play on or off the ball and score in a variety of ways. He has one year of eligibility remaining in his career.
Those two will pair with what is already set to be in Morgantown this season headlined by incoming freshman point guard Miles Sadler but the work is far from done. After losing the top seven in terms of minutes played and scoring from this past year, the coaching staff is going to need more help to round out the roster and has been linked to a number of key targets.
One of those is Georgia Tech big Mouhamed Sylla who would fill a major need in the front court.
Sylla, 6-foot-10, 240-pounds, is coming off a freshman season with the Yellow Jackets where he averaged 9.6 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 57.9-percent across 16 games. He missed time this past year due to an ankle injury but is a very talented center option.
The Senegal native was the No. 14 prospect nationally and the top center in the 2025 class.
Expect visits to continue as the coaching staff pieces together what the 2026-27 roster is going to look like for Hodge and company in year two.
