Susan E. Cumpston

It is with heavy hearts that we remember and celebrate the life of a truly kind-hearted woman whose greatest joy was her family.
Susan E. Cumpston, 75, of Mapletown, died Easter Sunday morning, April 5, 2026, at her home following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Morgantown on May 24, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Ronald and Bertha Stump Petrucci. She was a source of warmth, compassion, and unwavering love to all who knew her.
A 1968 graduate from University High School in Morgantown, “Sue” retired as the front end manager of the Giant Eagle grocery in Waynesburg, Pa.
Her life was defined by the simple but powerful acts of caring, always putting others before herself, offering a listening ear, a comforting hug or a gentle word when it was needed most. She had a special way of making everyone feel valued and at home in her presence.
Her husband, Robert B. Cumpston, passed away December. 12, 2023. Also deceased are her son, Robert Cumpston Jr. in 2008; a granddaughter, Emma Cumpston in 2018; and a brother, Ronnie Petrucci.
Above all, she cherished her family. Whether through shared meals, laughter-filled gatherings, or quiet moments together, she created a bond that will remain unbroken. Her love was constant, her support endless, and her pride in her family immeasurable.
Surviving are her loving family; son, Daniel Cumpston with wife, Tina and daughter, Kimberly Cumpston, all of Mapletown; seven grandchildren: T.J. and Anthony Wise, Jimmy and Alyssa Vernon, Marcus Cumpston, Sara Jeffries and Jenna Cumpston; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack Petrucci, of Cassville; along with a number of nieces and nephews and their families.
Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 until the 11 a.m. hour of service, Saturday, with Pastor Kenneth Haines officiating. Interment follows in Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Greensboro.
