KINGWOOD – The Preston County High School student whose death was announced by Preston County Schools on Sunday has been identified.
The student, 17-year-old Hunter Trey Hoover, died Sunday at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
According to his obituary with Kingwood Funeral Home, Hunter was known as a sincere, respectful and kindhearted young man by his friends, teachers and classmates. One of his classmates commented, “he made us laugh, even on the hardest days.”
Hundreds of posts on Facebook sent prayers and condolences to the family: “He was the most amazing person ever,” Athaya Parker posted. In another post, James Hogge wrote, “This is my hometown. Born and raised in Reedsville. Hurts to hear of a tragedy so close to my heart. God bless that family.” Rachel Ice wrote, “My sincerest thoughts and prayers for the family. This young man was the most sincere and kindhearted child.”
Hunter was the son of Brian Hoover (Nikki) of Bruceton Mills and Crystal Martin Showalter (Ronald) of Markleysburg, Pa.
“We are sorry to share that a Preston High School Student has tragically died this weekend. This loss is felt deeply across our entire school community,” the Preston County Schools Facebook page read. “Our sympathies go out to the family of the student, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts during this very difficult time.”
The post went on to say counselors and support staff will be available at Preston High School to support any students or staff who may need someone to talk with in the days ahead.
His obituary stated his cause of death was a gunshot accident.
