MORGANTOWN – FirstEnergy sisters Mon Power and Potomac Edison notified the Public Service Commission on Monday that that intend to file a new base-rate case within 30 days.
Their PSC filing is a single sentence. Details and proposed new rates will be spelled out in their full filing. Proposed rates are typically subject to negotiations with intervening parties.
The companies filed their previous rate case in May 2023 and a settlement was announced in January 2024. They first proposed a 15% increase – $18.07 per month for the average residential bill. The settlement resulted in an increase to the average monthly residential bill of 7.9% – $9.94.
That was the companies’ first rate case since 2014.
According to FirstEnergy, Mon Power serves about 395,000 customers in 34 West Virginia counties. Potomac Edison serves about 285,000 customers in seven counties in Maryland and 155,000 customers in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
