Rodney Allen DeBerry

Rodney Allen DeBerry, 77, of Bridgeport, passed away Monday, February 16, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Morgantown on December 15, 1948, a son of the late Lawrence E. and Aldona P. Sisler DeBerry.
Rodney was a loving and cherished husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant.
Rodney worked for Consol Coal Company as an electrician for several years. He enjoyed feeding the animals, especially the birds and squirrels and volunteering for food banks. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, the wind at his back, worries left behind. It was one of the many ways he embraced life fully and fearlessly.
Rodney was an all-around jack of all trades. He enjoyed building and fixing things. He loved to laugh and joke. But above all else, his greatest pride and deepest love were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were his world. Whether teaching them how to fix something, sharing stories, showing them he was still able to do pushups, or running up the hill, he treasured every moment with them.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cathy Reitkovich; two daughters, Kimberely L. Sherry and Tawnya S. McMillen; three stepdaughters: Lori Toothman, Janie Skinner and husband, Derrick and Stacy Ridenour and husband, Ken; stepson, Seth Slaman and wife, Kendra; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry E. DeBerry and wife, Jill; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty W. Martin; and three brothers: Lawrence E. DeBerry Jr., Thomas L. DeBerry and Roger F. DeBerry.
Rodney’s legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the kindness he showed, and the love he gave so freely. He will be profoundly missed, and forever remembered, in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
To honor Rodney’s wishes, professional and compassionate cremation services will be provided by the Field Funeral Home in Masontown. A celebration of his life will be held in the spring at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Herring.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Rodney’s memory to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 4528 Herring Road, Masontown, WV 26542 or Pleasant Grove Cemetery, c/o JoAnn Rowan, PO Box 49, Reedsville, WV 26547.
