Former West Virginia quarterback Clint Trickett is rapidly moving up the coaching ranks, getting his second job this offseason.
Maryland announced it has hired Trickett, who recently got a job as the Arkansas quarterbacks coach, to be its new offensive coordinator. Trickett was just hired by the Razorbacks in the middle of December. He now has a new home in the Big Ten.
Trickett played for the Mountaineers for two seasons after transferring from Florida State. Trickett threw for 3,285 yards and 18 touchdowns in his final season with WVU in 2014. From there, Trickett followed his father and brother into coaching.
Trickett spent last season as Jacksonville State’s offensive coordinator, helping the Gamecocks to a 9-5 record. His offense was one of the best in Conference USA, averaging 408.7 yards per game, scoring 28.1 points per game to rank fifth. Trickett’s running back Cam Cook, who is now with WVU, led the nation in rushing.
Prior to the success at Jacksonville State, Trickett spent a year as the tight ends coach and passing game coordinator at Georgia Southern, and was Marshall’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2022-23. He was also at Florida Atlantic and East Mississippi Community College, coaching QBs.
Now, the 34-year-old has his first offensive coordinator job at a Power Four school right after getting his first job at that level. Trickett has his work cut out for him with the Terrapins, replacing Pep Hamilton. Maryland ranked 11th in yards per game in the Big Ten and 13th in points per game. The Terrapins finished the 2025 season 4-8, losing the last eight games, and were tied for the second-worst record in the conference.
Trickett is a familiar name around WVU. Travis Trickett, his brother, is the offensive assistant on Rich Rodriguez’s staff, and his father, Rich Trickett, was recently hired as the offensive line coach this offseason.
