MORGANTOWN – Winter sports are heading for the postseason, with the first state championships set to be competed for this week as the 2026 WVSSAC State Swim Meet hits Mylan Aquatic Center in Morgantown Thursday and Friday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Despite battling multiple injuries, Morgantown has taken two of its last three games, with wins over Washington (53-38) and Hurricane (65-56). The Mohigans advanced to 13-5 with the latest win and have only two games remaining in the regular season on the road against Southern (Md.) and Washington.
University High defeated Washington 57-52 on Valentine’s Day behind a massive performance from senior Bri Fox. She scored 29 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished five assists, and swiped two steals against the Patriots.
After four out of five wins, Preston has dropped its last four contests, the latest to Mountain Ridge (Md.), 64-43. The Knights will have two games left on the regular-season schedule, visiting Philip Barbour on Wednesday before hosting University on Thursday.
Clay-Battelle continues to have a turnaround season, sitting two games over .500 at 9-7 after splitting its last four contests. The Cee-Bees will have three regular-season contests remaining, with Madonna and Valley visiting Blacksville and a trip to Richwood.

Prior to the defeat, however, the Mohigans downed Ashland Blazer (Ky.) 89-88 in double overtime the day before. MHS will have two massive home matchups against Wheeling Park and Washington on Friday and Saturday.
University High took home a pair of wins last week by way of one possession with a 51-48 victory over South Charleston. Kaleil Lewis led UHS with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
