WVU baseball’s final two games against Georgia Southern to be doubleheader due to weather

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia baseball is already battling weather issues for its first series of the 2026 season. Georgia Southern announced Friday morning that the final two games of the series will be a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 2 p.m., because there is bad weather forecasted on Sunday in Georgia. The third game was originally scheduled for Feb. 15 at 11:30 a.m.

After the first game on Feb. 14, the second game will start 45 minutes later. All three games will remain on ESPN+.

WVU’s first game is Friday night, Feb. 13, with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. The Mountaineers are expected to start Division II transfer Chansen Cole for the first game, Maxx Yehl in Game 2, and another Division II transfer, Dawson Montesa, to close the series out.

WVU looks to improve on last year’s historic season. In the first year under Steve Sabins, the Mountaineers finished 44-16 and won the Big 12 regular season title. However, WVU came up short in the Big 12 Tournament and was bounced in the super regional by LSU.

The Mountaineers look to get over the hump in 2026 with a new roster full of new depth pieces added in the transfer portal, along with some talented freshmen.
