James Thomas Keyser, affectionately known as Tom, of Morgantown, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the age of 76. Born January 13, 1950, he was the beloved husband of Freda Keyser for almost 55 years; and a devoted father to his daughter, Tamara (Terra) Monroe; and son, Kevin (Robin) Keyser. He cherished his role as “Pappy” to Hannah Keyser, Ian Monroe, and Shana Monroe, and he will be deeply missed by them.
A hardworking coal miner at Cumberland Coal, Tom spent many years serving his community and was a long-time member of The River Church.
He enjoyed hunting, riding ATVs, and sharing stories with anyone who crossed his path.
He is survived by his sister, Joyce Smyth; as well as his sisters-in-law, Susie Shisler, Ida Taft, and Jacquelin Shisler. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, who will carry on his legacy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Colean Bolyard Keyser; brother, Charles Keyser and wife Terri; his sister, Roberta Funston and husband Chester; and several brothers-in-law, including Butch Smyth, Robert Shisler, Jack Taft, Donald Henline and wife Glenna, Robert Crawford and wife Bonnie, Lloyd Shisler and wife Bonnie, and Daniel Shisler.
Special gratitude is extended to the staff at WVU Hospice, particularly Laura, Miranda, Nikki and Melissa, for their compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held in The River Church February 11. A public viewing will take place Tuesday, February 10, from 3 to 7 p.m., followed by an additional public viewing Wednesday, February 11, from 10 until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery following the service.
