Weekend Prep Roundup: 12/15/25

The high school hoops season is underway for boys and girls, with teams playing over the weekend and multiple days of action ahead.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

University traveled to Laurel Highlands (Pa.) Saturday afternoon, and came away with a 57-35 win. Bri Fox led all scorers with 19 points, and the Hawks had support from Whitney Cox and Taylor Vanscoy with 10 points apiece. UHS improved to 3-1 and will take on Wheeling Park in Wheeling on Thursday.

Clay-Battelle fell to 3-1 on Friday with a 52-33 defeat to Cameron on the road. The Cee-Bees will host Notre Dame on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Morgantown and Preston did not play over the weekend, but will be back in action this week. MHS will host Wheeling Park on Tuesday, while Preston will travel to Georgia for a trio of games later in the week.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Morgantown got off to a 2-0 start with a pair of wins in Wheeling over Wheeling Park (85-60) and Linsly (98-41). The Mohigans will host the Hope Gas Holiday Classic this weekend, welcoming University, Shady Spring, and St. John’s Catholic (Md.) to the Rowdie Center Friday and Saturday.

University did not play over the weekend and will host Fort Hill (Md.) Tuesday before heading across town for a pair of games at the Hope Gas Holiday Classic at Morgantown High.

Preston traveled to the Eastern Panhandle for the Washington Mixer, hosted by Washington High School. The Knights fell 51-49 to Jefferson before dropping their second game to Washington, 91-33. PHS returns home on Wednesday against Lewis County.

Trinity Christian defeated Notre Dame on the road, 63-59, on Friday night, improving to 2-0. Maddox Mousadis (20), Austin Porta (17), and Colin Lemley (12). Lemley added nine rebounds and seven assists as well. The Warriors will host Union (Oh.) on Thursday night before heading to Blacksville on Friday and Saturday for the 2025 Santa Series. Friday’s opponent will be Madonna, with Saturday being determined by the results of the games on the first day.

WRESTLING

University High School won the Max Horz Duals Tournament in Berkley Spring over the weekend, going a perfect 6-0. Jude Benson (120), Kaiden Nieman (126), Nico Maisel (144), Jason Walker (150), Max Vitale (157), Ayden Koeger (175), Emerson Murphy (190), and Ryder Hastings (215) all went 6-0 throughout the tournament for the Hawks, who will travel to John Marshall on Wednesday before hosting the Nurse Pro Plus Tournament on Sunday.
