Hunter N. Ayers, 17, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2025, in his home, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was born Friday, December 21, 2007 in Morgantown, a son of Bobbi Jo Ayers of Morgantown.
Hunter was a graduate of University High School and had planned a career as a plumber.
Hunter enjoyed playing video games with his friends, Jake Appleton and Gavin Eakin, also loved art, thrift store shopping, building Legos and Animes. He was a kind-hearted person and had love for his family and everyone. He loved his dog, Willow and his snake, Valentino.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Darrel Gibson; his paternal grandparents, Patricia and Michael Johns, and Ruth and Gary Gibson; brother, Christian Ayers; sister, Desirae Ayers; stepbrother, Collin Gibson; three aunts, Patricia Shannon (Patrick), Amy Ayers, Rebecca Verbosky; five uncles, Robert “Dude” Ayers (Monica Johnson), Kyle Cunningham, Gary Gibson (Nicole Walker), Michael Verbosky, Anthony Johns; cousins, Joshua Shannon, Austin Ayers, Abigal Shannon, and many more cousins.
Hunter was preceded in death by his father, Patrick Johns; and his maternal grandparents, Ruth Ann and Robert Ayers.
Hunter’s family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to WVU Children’s Hospital and staff for their compassion and help shown to Hunter during his stays there and to WVU Medicine Hospice for their caregiving and compassion. Also to University High School Assistant Principal Richard Senatore for helping Hunter receive his diploma and always being there for him during his illness.
Friends will be received in the Louis E. Rudolph Funeral Home, Thomas B. Rudolph, funeral director and supervisor, 15 N. Main Street, Point Marion, Pa., Wednesday, December 10, from 2 to 4 and 5 until the time of services at 6 p.m., with Brian Young officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
