Fires on Dawson Road lead to arson arrest

A Morgantown woman was arrested early Monday after being charged with deliberately setting fire to a vehicle and camper trailer on Dawson Road.

Angelica Shaw, 37, is currently lodged in North Central Regional Jail on $100,000 bond, the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies made the arrest of the suspect just after 3 a.m. Monday, the department said in a release.

That was after a River Road Volunteer Fire crew rolled up to find both vehicles engulfed – with the flames threatening a nearby house.

Shaw entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of first-degree arson, court documents said.

Meanwhile, the crew was quickly able to put out the fire and knock the blaze back from the house. Deputies took the suspect into custody at the scene.

No injuries were reported.

“An initial assessment of the scene suggested the use of an accelerant,” the sheriff’s department said.

The state Fire Marshal’s office has also been called to assist in the investigation.

Being found guilty of first-degree arson in West Virginia can carry a penalty of two to 20 years in prison.
