One killed in Monday morning accident near I-79 Exit 155

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that one person was killed Monday morning when a Peterbilt truck struck a Hyundai near I-79 Exit 155 (Star City).

According to a MCSD press release, the initial 9-1-1 call was received at approximately 6:10 a.m.

The Hyundai was carrying five passengers. All five were injured and transported to JW Ruby Memorial Hospital, where one person was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Peterbilt was not injured.

Deputies with the sheriff’s department are conducting accident reconstruction and investigative efforts. Officers with Star City and Granville assisted at the scene. Volunteer fire departments from Granville, Star City, Westover and Greene County, Pa. also responded.

The accident forced the closure of I-79 north for several hours, backing up traffic for miles along the interstate.

No additional details regarding the cause of the crash are being released at this time, pending the ongoing investigation.
