MORGANTOWN – Glen Dale Republican Robert “Bob” Dobkin has announced his intention to run for the District 2 state Senate seat now held by Sen. Charles Clements, R-Wetzel.

The seat is up for election in 2026, and Clements supports Dobkin but was unable to attend Dobkin’s Thursday morning announcement in Moundsville.
“West Virginia needs proven leaders who are focused on growing our economy, rebuilding
our state’s infrastructure, and improving education for all of our students,” Dobkin said. “I
plan to continue the work of Sen. Clements and be that leader for the 2nd District.”
The 2nd District covers all of three counties and parts of three others, including western and northern Monongalia to the Preston County border, and western Marion.
In his announcement, Dobkin says he is an attorney who practices law at Spilman Thomas & Battle in its Wheeling office, where his practice centers on corporate and business law, mineral law, and estate and trust planning.
“I will be a commonsense conservative who will prioritize jobs, economic development, and family values,” he said. “We need to focus on the issues that will make West Virginia a great place to live, work, and raise a family,” he said.
“My career has been shaped by always providing the best guidance possible to those who have sought my assistance in achieving meaningful outcomes,” he said, “and I firmly believe that same seriousness and preparation should be expected from our public servants.”
Dobkin’s community service includes board posts with Youth Services System, the Temple Shalom Board of Trustees, the West Virginia Northern Community College Foundation, the Grand Vue Park Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upper Ohio Valley, and the City of Wheeling Board of Zoning Appeals.
He is a graduate of West Virginia Northern Community College, Wheeling Jesuit University, and the Duquesne University School of Law. Bob was raised in Moundsville, and now lives in Glen Dale with his wife, Amy, and their son, Ben.
