MORGANTOWN – If you plan to be in attendance for the 2025 Mohawk Bowl football game played between Morgantown and University High School this evening at 7:00 on Baker’s Ridge, make sure to stay in your seat during halftime.
While the two schools will battle on the field for four quarters of football on Friday night, the rivals will come together during the halftime break for a special show featuring the marching bands from both schools.
Each school boasts over 100 members in the marching band, and together they form a band of over 250 members that will play as one on Friday.
“We’ve done this maybe four times since I’ve been band director here,” said Mark Palmer, UHS band director since 2000. “It’s a great opportunity for us to show the other side of the Mohawk rivalry and see how the two schools work together to create our wonderful community in Morgantown.”
Morgantown band director Lorne Hyskell says this gives people a great chance to see the roles that bands and music hold in athletics.
“These are two really great bands from our state coming together to showcase what we have here in Mon County,” he said. “While we’ve got two great football teams out there on the field playing hard to win the game, we also have two really great bands that are going to join together and try to do the best we can to entertain the crowd a bit.”
On Wednesday, the two bands got together for a collaborative practice at University High.
The show will include a medley of songs with a Halloween twist, plus a surprise for the fans at the end.
“Our last song will be Thriller for the Halloween theme,” Hyskell said. “And then we have a bit of a surprise picture with that at the end for the audience. We want to go out and do the best we can and sound the best we can while we are out there.”
