Paige Brink surpasses 1,000-career kills, MHS sweeps season series over University with 3-0 win

MORGANTOWN – The Morgantown High School volleyball program has seen its share of highly talented players over the years, who have left a lasting impact and achieved some impressive milestones along the way.

On Thursday night, senior Paige Brink became the latest Mohigan to put her name into the history books as she earned her 1,000th career kill as MHS defeated its crosstown rival, University, 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18).

MHS swept the regular season series over the Hawks with the victory without dropping a set in either of the two contests. Brink earned her 1,000th kill with a powerful hit midway through the second set.

“I’m just so excited because I’ve played with so many different groups of girls, and being able to do it with some of my teammates who I’ve played with most of my life means a lot,” Brink said. “I’m grateful that my coaches took a chance on me as a freshman and allowed me to gain the confidence I needed on the court. It’s all prepared me for my senior season.”

Paige Brink (5) celebrates her 1,000th career kill with her team on Thursday evening.

Brink has been a four-year varsity player for MHS and helped the program to its first state championship in 2023. Brink and the 2026 seniors on the team have reached the state title match every year they’ve been on the team so far, and hope to continue that streak in 2025.

“Everything I’ve experienced has helped get me where I am now,” Brink said. “I was able to be around some great leaders early on, and that’s helped me be that person on and off the court for others now.”

MHS head coach Abigail Wolfe says having Brink on the court gives her and her staff peace of mind with a player they can trust to do the right thing.

“She’s just someone who does what needs to be done, when it needs to be done,” Wolfe said. “She’s grown so much over the years, but specifically from last offseason to now. She’s been stellar for our team. Earlier in the season, we were down by six points to Linsly, and they were on set point, and we came back and won behind Paige, rallying the girls. She has a lot of grit and composure.”

The Mohigans took the first set over UHS 25-17, but the Hawks rallied in the second and opened with a lead. Brink then went back to serve and sparked four straight points for MHS to steal the lead back. That lead wouldn’t be surrendered as MHS went ahead 2-0 in the match.

University’s Riley Braham looks on as her teammate attempts a kill.

The third set went to MHS 25-18 as it earned a regular-season sweep of the Hawks, earning its 20th win of 2025.

“Going forward, I think it’s more of a mental game for us,” Brink said. “We have some players who don’t have a ton of varsity experience, so it’ll be important for us to lean on each other and trust our teammates. Our hardest games are all ahead of us, and it won’t get any easier from here.”
