Shirley A. Hegedis, 86, of Mount Morris, Pa., passed away Sunday, September 21, 2025, in Waynesburg, following a lengthy illness. Born in Graysville, Pa. on March 14, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur and Helen Hewitt Cumpston.
She had formerly worked as a Unit Clerk at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Shirley was Past Worthy Matron for the Masontown Chapter of the Eastern Star, a member of the Red Hat Ladies, and was an active member for over 40 years with the Mount Morris American Legion Auxiliary, where she was a past president.
Surviving are three children, Randy Hegedis of Butler, Stephanie Guzman and husband Mark, of Colorado Springs, CO and Rhonda Lewellen of Greensboro; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Brown of Greensboro; two brothers, William Cumpston of Bobtown and Dennis Cumpston of Morgantown; and a number of loving nieces and nephews and their families.
Shirley had a wonderful sense of humor, and could always light up a room. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Also deceased is a son, Stephen Hegedis, Jr., brothers, Thomas and Robert Cumpston, and sisters, Helen Petak and Judy Sweeney.
The family will receive friends in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, on Saturday, October 4th, from 2 to 4 p.m.. A brief memorial will begin at 4 p.m,. led by her niece Melody Petak.
