Michael James Hardy, 71, of Bobtown, Pa., died Friday, September 12, 2025, in Waynesburg, Pa., following a lengthy illness. He was born in Canonsburg, Pa., November 16, 1953, a son of the late Grace Irene Christoff and John Hardy, Sr.
He was a coal miner, formerly at Consol’s Dillworth Mine, and later was a photojournalist for West Virginia University.
A member of the United Mine Workers of America, he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing with his brothers, and was skilled at making walking sticks, which he enjoyed giving to his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Lorrie Salosky Hardy; three daughters and their husbands: Gretchen and Bryan Schuler of East Greenville, Pa., Jill and Lee Dingle of Bobtown, Pa., and Loribeth and Hethe McCollum of Waynesburg; eight grandchildren, Renee, Hannah, Ethan, Carson, Lane, Ashley, Lelia and Brandon; two great- grandsons, Eli and Grayson; two brothers, John C. Hardy, Jr of Connellsville, Pa. and Bruce Hardy of Carmichaels, Pa.; and a sister, Theodora “Teddi” Shaffer of Minerva, Ohio.
Also deceased is one brother, Joseph Hardy.
Friends and family will be received from 5 until the hour of funeral services at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 18, in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion, Pa., with the Rev. Gale Cobb officiating.
