Morgantown, University tied atop first WVSSAC football playoff ratings release for 2025

MORGANTOWN – The first installment of the 2025 WVSSAC football playoff ratings was released Tuesday, ahead of the upcoming fourth week of games this weekend. The top 16 in each classification qualify for the postseason. Weekly ratings are released each Tuesday through the completion of the regular season.

Morgantown and University sit tied for the top spot in the Class AAAA field with a rating of 15.33 and each with a record of 3-0 through the opening trio of games. The Mohigans have scored 134 points, while allowing only 21 to their opponents in the first three games. The Hawks lead Class AAAA with 140 points on offense while allowing 60 to opponents so far.

The Clay-Battelle Cee-Bees come in at No. 10 in the Class A playoff ratings at 2-1 in 2025, their only loss coming to No. 2 Cameron, 22-16, in Week 1. Aaron Lapoe and his club will enjoy their bye week for Week 4 before traveling to No. 11 Gilmer County in Week 5 and hosting No. 2 Meadow Bridge in Week 6.

While the ratings indicate what the playoff picture could look like, the midway point of the schedule is still ahead of every team, and no one has a spot secured just yet.

“It means absolutely nothing,” MHS head coach Sean Biser said. “It’s just rat poison.”

Biser’s Mohigans hold victories over Parkersburg, Jefferson, and Hedgesville. They will travel to Connellsville, Pa., this Friday in search of their fourth consecutive win before their schedule hits its most challenging stretch.

MHS welcomes No. 8 Spring Mills in Week 5 before heading north to battle No. 4 Wheeling Park. MHS then treks back to the Eastern Panhandle to visit No. 13 Martinsburg.

The Hawks will travel to Wheeling Island Stadium to face the Patriots this Friday before hosting Fairmont Senior the following week.

Preston High sits on the outside looking in at No. 19 in Class AAAA. The Knights are 0-3 but will play their home opener in Week 4 against Robert C. Byrd, looking to get into the win column for the first time in 2025.
