MORGANTOWN – Morgantown High School senior Maddie Wisman has recently announced her commitment to play Division I softball, joining the program at Robert Morris University next fall.
Having the opportunity to play Division I softball is something Maddie has dreamt about since she was in middle school.
“This is something I’ve been wanting to do since I was in the seventh grade,” Wisman said. “Of course, I was open to all levels of recruitment, but being able to play at the highest level collegiately means the world to me. I’ve worked hard throughout the years for sure, but also feel very lucky to be in the position and to have the opportunity.”
Being close to home is something that influenced Wisman’s decision, as the RMU campus is located near Pittsburgh.
“That’s so exciting to be so close to home,” Wisman said. “I’m going to get to look in the stands and see my parents at most games, and I’ll still be able to come back for big things, like this past weekend with the WVU football game. I can come back to be here for that. But at the same time, being able to be independent and take care of myself a bit will be nice.”
Another huge positive for Wisman will be her chance to contribute as a pitcher and hitter for the Colonials.
“I am primarily a pitcher, but the coaches have told me they like my bat, and I’ll have the opportunity to earn the chance to hit; that’s the fun part,” she said. “Honestly, that was at the top of the list for what I was looking for in a program. I wanted to go somewhere I could pitch while having the chance to earn my spot in the lineup.”
Wisman is a back-to-back WVSWA first-team all-state selection, and she impressed at every position she covered on the field in 2025. She was 14-6 in the circle while hitting .380 with two homers and 17 RBI at the plate. She also filled in at first and third base defensively.
Maddie credits her time at Mylan Park, growing up and playing in Morgantown, for having such a profoundly positive impact on her love for the game.
“This game has been my world since I was seven years old,” Wisman said. “Both of my brothers played baseball, and I’ve been around Mylan Park since I was born. The Morgantown High program is something I’ve looked up to for years, and I’ve seen the way the sport has grown. The softball community in our area has done so much for me as a player. I never feel more confident as a player than when I’m standing on ISS Field playing the game I love with teammates I’ve grown up playing with.”
