Morgantown improves to 3-0 with dominant victory over Hedgesville, 52-7

MORGANTOWN – Through the first three weeks of the 2025 season, the Morgantown High School football team has scored 134 points and only allowed 21 to its opponents, dominating on both sides of the ball.

The most recent victory came Friday night over Hedgesville at Pony Lewis Field as the Mohigans controlled the game wire-to-wire and left with a 52-7 win to remain unbeaten at 3-0.

MHS sophomore quarterback Maddox Twigg accounted for four total touchdowns, with three through the air and the fourth on a 45-yard scamper to the endzone. He completed 12 of 16 passes for 210 yards and rushed for 61 yards on four carries.

The Mohigans allowed Hedgesville to gain 230 yards of offense in the contest, with only 53 yards on the ground on 22 attempts. MHS also earned four sacks.

“I think this team has embraced the toughness that we try to teach them and demand from them each day,” MHS head coach Sean Biser said. “I think they embrace that, and that’s the most enjoyable thing to see. It’s been a work in progress. I have a great coaching staff, the best around, in my opinion. They’re constantly teaching and working with players to get better. Even in pregame today.”

Twigg opened the scoring with his touchdown run in the first quarter after the Eagles (0-3) went three-and-out on their opening drive. Then on the ensuing Hedgesville drive, MHS linebacker Kane Williams forced a fumble that was scooped by Brooks King and taken to the house, doubling the lead.

“I saw the ball hit the ground, and it bounced right into my arms,” King said. “I juggled it a little bit and had the open field to take it to the endzone. Kane played excellently tonight and made a great play to knock the ball free.”

King and Williams, along with Rhys Wells, have quickly become a force to be reckoned with in the middle of the MHS defense.

“Kane comes from an excellent Allegheny program, and you can’t forget about any of those three guys,” Biser said. “Rhys has been playing his tail off and had a great hit at the beginning of the game tonight. We are blessed to have three really talented linebackers. Brooks is just a physical player with a hard-nosed style who will just get after you.”

King was also quick to credit the guys on the line in front of him on defense.

“Having Za’Von (Shipman) and Chase (Travis) in the middle is a huge help,” he said. “When they play well and hold their gaps, once we get the calls in, everything works out well.”

MHS added another touchdown in the opening quarter as Twigg connected with Cooper on a screen pass that he took to the endzone. Cooper finished with three catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns.

Thompson got on the board for MHS in the second quarter with a 24-yard run, his lone score of the night after rushing for 78 yards on seven carries.

“Isaiah has done a great job,” Biser said. “He does everything we ask, works hard in the weight room, and has been working on his vision. He’s a great kid, too. I mostly love the fact that he’s grown his ability to protect the pass, and sometimes think he does a better job blocking than running the ball.”

Morgantown took a 35-0 lead into the halftime break before adding two more scores in the second half. Aidan Petsko drilled a 30-yard field goal to extend the lead to 52-0, but the Eagles scored a late touchdown to ruin the shutout with a 53-yard scamper by Micah Priller.

MHS will travel to Connellsville (Pa.) next Friday while Hedgesville hosts Martinsburg.
