MORGANTOWN — A parking lot repair project initially expected to be complete by Aug. 1 may well stretch through October.
The Morgantown Parking Authority’s Parking Lot C – located at the corner of Pleasant and Spruce streets – has been closed since June 9.
“The city and the Morgantown Parking Authority are working closely with the contractor to ensure the lot is completed safely, and we anticipate reopening by the end of October hopefully,” Morgantown Communications Director Brad Riffee explained.
The Morgantown Parking Authority awarded a $250,000 contract to Maryland-based Beitzel Excavating, Paving & Construction to do the work.
“While the lot has remained closed since early June, the delay is not due to any major structural issues but rather a combination of scheduling, coordination and ensuring that all components of the project meet the required standards.”
Asked if the city intended to seek damages specified in the contract for missing the Aug. 1 completion date, Riffee said the city is reviewing the contract terms and subsequent change orders to extend the timeline.
“Adjustments like this are common in project schedules,” he said. “We’re pleased to report that the contractor has been on-site for the past three days, and we’re looking forward to completing the project as soon as possible.”
