MORGANTOWN — West Virginia Department of Transportation Communications Director Brent Walker said the Morgantown Industrial Park access road and bridge project spanning the Monongahela River still has a planned completion date of winter 2026, for now.
According to Walker, the timeline may end up getting pushed to spring 2027.
Relaying updates provided by the project’s consultant, Walker explained earthwork continues as the contractor pulls soil from some areas to build up others.
“Approximately 150,000 cubic yards of earth have been moved of an expected 953,000 cubic yards. Next steps are to install drainage culverts and begin work on the bridge itself once the design is finalized.”
Current estimates are Triton Construction will begin erecting steel in early to mid 2026.
The timeline could be impacted by two lingering right of way issues, which, according to Walker, are close to resolution.
“The issues should not affect current earth work but may affect the bridge at some point,” he said.
The project will improve the industrial park’s existing Rail Street, cross the river on a multi-span bridge and join U.S. 119 (Grafton Road) near Scott Avenue. A connection to Smithtown Road will also be built, and a portion of Master Graphics Road – connecting to River Road – will be improved and paved.
Triton Construction, of St. Albans, was awarded the contract in August 2024 at a cost of $59,764,000.
