MORGANTOWN – A company called Brandonville Solar may build a solar power plant in Bruceton Mills.

The company originally filed with the Public Service Commission a notice of intent to apply for a solar siting certificate on May 30. That notice was set to expire in 90 days.

So on Monday, the company filed a second notice, indicating it will file the application in anywhere form 15 to 90 days.

The company tells the PSC it is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Enel Green Power North America.

Enel Green Power says it operates more than 1,400 renewable energy plants on five continents, including nearly 100 in North America. The power portfolio includes hydroelectric, wind, solar and geothermal.

“We’re facilitating the move towards electrification and sustainable energy by putting people and the environment first, and we’re also constantly pushing technological boundaries and increasing stakeholder awareness,” it says.

A 2023 generation interconnection facilities study report for regional grid operator PJM interconnection says Brandonville Solar has proposed a new solar facility to be located in Bruceton Mills. The facility would have a maximum output of 99.6 megawatts with 59 MW of this output being recognized by PJM as capacity.

The facility would interconnect with Mon Power’s system, the report says.

For comparison, Mon Power operates a solar facility adjacent to its coal-fired Fort Martin Plant. That facility has 49,032 solar panels across 80 acres generating 18.89 MW of power. A second site in Rivesville has13,680 panels across 27 acres, generating up to 5.5 MW.
