Trinity Christian volleyball enters 2025 season with first-year head coach Alycia Perrine

MORGANTOWN – The Trinity Christian High School volleyball team has seen a fair share of success the past few seasons.

Winners of 33 games in 2024, the Warriors were one win away from a berth in the Class A state tournament before falling to St. Mary’s in the regional championship.

Alycia Perrine now takes over for former head coach Anna Witt, who spent two seasons at TCS.

Perrine, originally from Oakland, Maryland, is a graduate of Southern Garrett High School, where she played four years of varsity volleyball as a setter and outside hitter.

“I also played in a club ball league up in Somerset, PA, during high school as an outside hitter,” Perrine said. “I went on to play my freshman year in college at Alderson Broaddus University as an outside hitter/defensive specialist, but decided to focus on my studies after that, so I stepped away from playing and finished my college education as a Physician Assistant. I am excited to get back into the volleyball scene at Trinity and coach this season, along with my assistant coach, Brad Murdock.”

The Warriors also said goodbye to a talented senior class that left a mark on the program, but Perrine says her young group is energetic and versatile.

“Last year, the team had several seniors who the team relied on to carry them through,” she said. “This year, despite being a younger team, I see promising talent and versatility, which I anticipate using to shake things up and hopefully throw off our opponents. We are working to quickly identify my player’s strengths and weaknesses, so we can capitalize on what we do best and improve our weak areas. I am also working to instill the mindset of “teamwork” into the team so they will work together to accomplish a common goal and succeed.”

TCS returns a pair of impact players in juniors Lainey Jackson and Marlo Flecker. Jackson, an honorable mention for all-state in Class A as a libero, led the Warriors with 591 digs (12.6 per match) and 537 serve-receptions. She also provided 85 aces serving. Flecker led TCS with 372 kills (3.0 per set).

“You will see two strong juniors on the court most of the game,” Perrine said. “Marlo Flecker and Lainey Jackson are well-rounded players, and I foresee them stepping into a leadership role to help their fellow teammates out.”

Trinity Christian will open its season on Thursday, August 28, with a tri-match, joining Madonna to visit Linsly. The Warriors will play their home-opener against Valley on September 2, and will visit cross-county rival Clay-Battelle on September 4.

“I have loved getting to know the girls and teaching them about a sport I truly love,” Perrine said. “But even more so, I have loved investing in them spiritually and watching them grow not only as volleyball players, but as godly young women.”
