Macel Yvonne Zimmerman Hartman passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the age of 87, in Morgantown. She was born in Mt. Morris, Pa., November 23, 1937, to the late Earl Sponaugle, Sr. and Velma Stump Sponaugle.
As a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Macel’s life was a testament to the power of nurturing relationships and caring for others.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Linda Wade and husband Terry of Morgantown; her caring sister, Wandalea Hicks; two special nieces, Amber Sponaugle and Elaine Williams; her adored grandchildren, Eric Wade and wife April, Emily Galeota and husband Zak, and Ashley Wright and husband Matthew; along with her cherished great-grandchildren, Alex Wade, Macey Mason, Beatrice Galeota, and Calvin Galeota.
Macel was greeted by her beloved parents, Earl Sponaugle Sr. and Velma Stump Sponaugle; her husband, John Hartman; her daughters, Terri Foley and Cynthia Lea Mason; her sisters, Freda Stout, Arlene Stout, and Bernice Tomer; and her brothers, Willis Sponaugle and Earl Sponaugle. Her reunion with them is imagined as a joyful one, filled with the peace and happiness that she bestowed upon others in life.
In her professional journey, Macel honed her exceptional culinary skills as a cook at Ruby Hospital.
As the matriarch of her family, Macel’s guiding hand, unwavering support, and boundless love crafted a legacy of strength through tenderness. Her wisdom and spirit will continue to inspire those who were graced by her presence. Macel’s ability to turn everyday moments into treasured memories ensures that her influence will resonate for generations to come.
Family and friends are invited to gather in McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Westover, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m., the time of a funeral service, Friday, August 1, with Pastor Joe Adams officiating. Following the service, Macel will be laid to rest at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
