Eddie Keith Smallwood Sr.

Eddie Keith Smallwood Sr., a cherished patriarch and beacon of love, passed away peacefully, in his home in Opekiska, Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the age of 85. Born November 30, 1939, in Fairmont, to the late James and Jessie Heston Smallwood, Eddie’s life was a testament to the enduring power of kindness and courage.
Eddie’s journey was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family and his country. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline and honor that he carried throughout his days.
After his military service, he became a respected member of the Laborers Union Local 379, where his hard work and commitment to his fellow laborers were well recognized.
His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate Smallwood Used Cars, a business that not only served the community, but also provided a gathering place for friends and family.
Eddie’s life was rich with relationships and activities that brought him joy. He was a loving father to his daughters, Vicki Smallwood (Tim Newlon), and Sharon Frum (Millie Vazquez); and a best friend and mentor to his son, Eddie K. Smallwood, Jr. (Monica). His siblings, Bonnie McCabe, Carol Forman and Roy Smallwood, will remember him as a brother who always extended a helping hand and a listening ear.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Bissett; and brothers, Donald, Larry, James “Bud”, Danny, and Denny Smallwood.
Eddie’s legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren, Christopher Frum, Rachael Frum (Sami Al-Qaisi), and Joshua Smallwood, along with his great- grandchildren, Asher and Lina. Each of them will carry forward his teachings and the memory of his boundless love. For 37 years, Neda Glover was his devoted girlfriend, and together they shared a life full of laughter and companionship. Neda’s children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren also became an integral part of Eddie’s extended family, embracing him as their own.
Known affectionately as “Pap” to everyone, Eddie was his family’s hero. His love for dancing and music often turned gatherings into celebrations, and his presence was a source of comfort and joy. His passion for yard sales and thrifting was more than a hobby, it was a way to connect with his community and share in the simple pleasures of life. Eddie’s kindness was felt by all who knew him, and his courage in the face of life’s challenges was an inspiration. He was a man who found his greatest pleasure in spending time with his loved ones, and his absence will be deeply felt by all.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Neda Jackson for her loving care and attention she gave her Pap.
