Richard Lynn Eddy passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025, in the comfort of Morgantown, leaving behind a legacy of melody, enduring workmanship, and family devotion.
Born April 14, 1943, in the heart of McCurdysville, Richard lived a life rich in love, music, and the joy of craftsmanship. Richard’s early life was shaped by the industrious spirit of his parents, the late William Nimrod Eddy and Mary Kennedy Eddy.
He was a cherished brother to Sandy Main (Lee), Rachel Knisley (William), and remembered lovingly his late siblings, Buzzy Lee Eddy and Randy B. Eddy. His life was further blessed with the companionship and love of his wife, Linda Kay Staggers Eddy and their two children, Rachel and Elizabeth, and grandson, Darby Lynn with whom he built a family and shared life’s greatest moments.
As a proud father, Richard’s kind heart and skillful hands guided his children: Sherry Lynn Forquer (Rick) of Jakes Run, James R. Eddy (Michelle L.) of Lost Creek, Rachel E. Eddy (Emily Hammond) of Alexandria, Va., and Elizabeth B. Eddy (Robin Dean) of Hedgesville. He was a doting grandfather to: Darby Lynn Dean, Jonathen Raines, Joshua Raines, J.R. Eddy, Erica Criss, cherishing the late Jesse Lynn Raines in memory. Stepping into the role of a fun-loving grandparent as well, he adored his stepgrandchildren, Ricky and Zachary Forquer, Landon and Scarlett Meazell; and delighted in the antics of his great- grandchildren, Trenton Criss, Aubrey Criss, Millie Eddy, Kenzleigh Lynn Raines.
Richard’s career as a construction worker and valued employee for the WV State Department of Highways spoke to his dedication and knack for creating robust foundations, not only in labor but also within his family. His interests outside of work were as rich and varied as the notes he played on his fiddle. Whether tending to his garden and greenhouse, fixing heavy machinery, playing cards, square dancing, contra dancing, or teaching his loved ones and many in the community the cherished art of playing music, Richard’s enthusiasm for life was infectious.
The Eddy household often resonated with the tunes of Richard’s fiddle; his joy in teaching his craft was evident from the music that danced through the air. The values he instilled and the memories shared will continue to play like a beautiful, unending melody in the hearts of those who loved him. Richard’s life was a testament to the beauty of simple pleasures and the depth of familial love.
