Virginia Gail Lang Rowan, 73, formerly of Morgantown, passed peacefully Friday, June 27, 2025, in Nags Head, N.C., after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Born September 16, 1951, in Memphis, Tenn., Virginia was a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and a beloved member of her community.
Raised in Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Morgantown, Virginia graduated from Morgantown High School and attended Morgantown Business College.
In 1972, she married and devoted much of her adult life to childrearing and homemaking.
Her work life included time at West Virginia University in the Financial Aid Office, the Morgantown Public Library, and other local establishments.
Following her retirement, Virginia moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where she spent her remaining years in the town of Manteo.
Virginia had a remarkable talent for crafting, spending much of her time sewing, knitting, and crocheting, often creating beautiful blankets for the Angel Foundation. An avid reader and jigsaw puzzle enthusiast, she also enjoyed watching mysteries and playing Scrabble. Hummingbirds were a special interest her whole life.
A woman of deep faith, Virginia was a cherished member of Manteo First Assembly. She also derived immense joy from the friends in her crochet and knitting circle. Her spirituality and kindness left a lasting impression on all those around her.
Virginia leaves behind her children, Audra Cox (Westley), Kellie Rowan, and Shawn Rowan; her beloved nine grandchildren, Aaliyah Everett, Aliyssa Neal, Avante Neal, Adriannah Neal, Liena Johnson, Levi Cox, Caleb Cox, Matthew Rowan, and Samuel Rowan; and surviving brothers, Fred W. Lang, Jr. (Shirley), and Robert Lang (Linda).
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Opal and Frederick W. Lang, Sr.; as well as her siblings, Betty Bock, James Lang, and Nancy Brittell.
The family would like to thank Adoration Hospice and Peak Resources Outer Banks in Nags Head, for their exceptional care. Though we mourn her passing, Virginia has gone home to be with her Lord.
