Samuel Paul Harteis

Samuel Paul Harteis, 66, of Bruceton Mills, went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 23, 2025. The son of Paul Joseph and Cora Elsie Harteis, he was born on March 25, 1959, in Johnstown, Pa.
After graduating from Conemaugh Valley High School, Sam graduated from Penn State where he received his Bachelor of Science in mining engineering in 1982. Thereafter, he obtained his licensure as a Professional Engineer. He worked for NIOSH for a number of years and assisted with the writing of several books on mining research.
Sam was very active in the local churches. He spent many years attending Mission Take Back’s fall youth retreat and served as a counselor, leader and friend and also participated in two mission trips to Guatemala. He was often found with a guitar in hand and a song in his heart. Those who knew Sam well, knew his love for tractors.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Paige; two sons and their spouses, Jerrod and Meredith Stemple Harteis and Ryan and Mykiah Silbaugh Harteis; six grandchildren: Noah Lipscomb and Aubrey, Chesney, Cora, Mattalyn and Archer Harteis; and his favorite sister, Corinne Strazisar.
Sam was preceded in death by his grandparents: Lewis and Elizabeth Harteis, Thecla Mae and Claire Templeton, and Charles Crum; as well as his brother-in-law, Robert Strazisar.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Kathy Young from the Lighthouse Program and the nurses and staff at Amedisys.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to express sympathy consider donating to either the Olive Branch Church or Mission: Take Back Ministries.
Family and friends may call at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 and from 10 until the 11 a.m. service on Thursday, May 29, with Pastor Tim Wotring officiating.
