Caroline Watt Richmond, 88, of Kingwood, formerly of Safety Harbor, Fla., died of natural causes, in her home in Kingwood, Monday, January 27, 2025.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, April 24, 1936, to Evelyn Gilbert Watt and MacKenzie Watt, Caroline also lived in Birmingham, Ala., Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, and moved with her mother and stepfather to Sarasota, Fla. in 1947.
Following graduation from college, she and her first husband, David Sherman, lived in New York City, N.Y.; Atlanta, Ga.; and Tallahassee, St. Petersburg, Miami and Clearwater, Fla.
A graduate of Sarasota (Florida) High School, she attended Judson College in Marion, Ala., and graduated from Florida State University, Tallahassee, with a BA degree in Journalism. While at Florida State, Caroline was a member of the Phi Mu social fraternity and worked on the Tally Ho yearbook staff.
A staff writer for the now defunct Clearwater Sun and for Tampa Bay Business Journal, she was also managing editor of Town and Village in New York City and wrote for other business publications.
Survivors include sons, Joe Sherman of St. Petersburg Beach, Fla., Mike Sherman of Dade City, Fla., and Will Sherman of Tallahassee; four grandchildren, Trey Sherman, Tim Sherman, Tate Sherman and Bryan Kelley; stepchildren, Lisa Richmond, Ken Richmond and Polly Richmond-Roberts; stepgrandchildren, Marly Roberts, Nathaniel Roberts, Helen Dawson, Evan Dawson and Nicole Norman; along with her three beloved great- grandchildren, Lily, Nathan and Madison.
Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, MacKenzie and Evelyn Watt; and her husband, Robert “Bob” Richmond.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Caroline will be held Saturday, May 3, at 1358 N. Preston Highway, Kingwood. Friends and loved ones are welcome to gather beginning at 2 p.m., with the service to commence at 3 p.m., led by the Reverend David Spence. A luncheon will follow at the same location.
