Velma Elizabeth Scott Johnson, 82, of Tunnelton, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025, in Kingwood Healthcare Center.
Velma was born June 29, 1942, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Robert Melvin and Alice Arminta Cox Scott.
Velma was a great homemaker. She enjoyed having gatherings at her home for her family, where they enjoyed her outstanding food, including many baked pies and cakes. Velma was an accomplished seamstress, making many dresses for her daughters, including a wedding dress, and shirts for her son. She loved knitting, crocheting, gardening, and yardwork. Over the years, Velma held her family together and she will be deeply missed.
Velma is survived by her son, Enoch “Bob” (Sandy) Johnson of Martinsburg; her three daughters, Alicia (Richard) Smith of Reedsville, Angela “Susan” (James) Knotts of Tunnelton, Patricia “Trish” (Shawn) Auvil of Tunnelton; son-in-law, David Scroggs of Kingwood; eight grandchildren, Scotty, DJ, Kristi, Jackie, Cody, Jeremy, Tim, Stevie; eight great- grandchildren, Connor, Benjamin, Braylen, Graylee, Oliver, Maverick, Ryker, Grayson; two sisters, Dian (Buddy) Phillips of Grafton, Wilma (John) Hupp of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Enoch Johnson, whom she loved dearly; a daughter, Glenda Scroggs; four brothers, Herbie Scott, Dale Scott, Victor Scott, Buster Scott; three sisters, Caroline Bulatko, Bonnie Helmick, Myrtle Weidow; and maternal grandmother, Violet Weidow.
Friends and family will be received in Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral hour Tuesday, April 22, with the Reverend Dr. Lisa Fox officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery.
