Samuel was a life-long West Virginia University sports fan, a passion he shared with his mother, Marguerite Scumaci. In South Carolina, Sam was an active “girl dad” and even learned to do an acceptable ballerina bun. He also became a golf aficionado. He made annual family trips to Ocean City, Md., with the Scumaci “clan” and had spent time in Oahu, Hawaii at Pearl Harbor on an IG work trip. Sam enjoyed travel and made trips to Egypt and Europe with his daughter and a momentous trip to South America, where he explored San Paulo, Brazil.
Sam is survived by his daughter, Michelle, and her fiance, Jade McLaughlin; his sisters, Maria Scumaci Spencer of Oakland, Md.; Carla Scumaci and spouse Beth Dean of Pawleys Island; Sheila Scumaci of Nashville, Tenn.; and his brother, Ralph Scumaci, Jr. and wife Kellie Myers Scumaci of Morgantown.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Paula Scumaci Burton; and parents, Marguerite Antonelli Scumaci and Ralph Paul Scumaci, Sr., lifelong Morgantown residents.
A Memorial Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Star City is planned for later in the summer. Friends and family will be notified of its time.
