Prep roundup: UHS girls lacrosse improves to 10-0, Trinity Christian baseball gets back in win column

MORGANTOWN – Spring sports are rolling along and local teams are battling in the regular season.

Baseball

Morgantown: MHS dropped a one-run contest 2-1 against Linsly on Wednesday before picking up a victory over Class AAA side Herbert Hoover on Friday afternoon.

MHS improved to 11-7 on the season and will play two games on Saturday against Washington and Huntington.

University: The Hawks defeated Lincoln 11-2 on Senior Day on Wednesday before winning 16-7 over Fairmont Senior on Friday.

Max Cash drove in four RBI with a pair of hits and two runs scored on Friday against the Polar Bears after UHS fell behind 5-0 in the first inning.

Preston: The Knights fell to 4-5 with a 2-0 defeat to Bridgeport on Wednesday.

Clay-Battelle: The Cee-Bees continued a strong start to the season with three more wins last week, extending their winning streak to six games.

C-B defeated Cameron on Tuesday, Magnolia on Thursday, and Beallsvile (Oh.) on Friday to improve to 9-3 in 2025 and will travel to Lewis County on Monday.

Trinity Christian: The Warriors ended a five-game losing streak with a 7-6 win over Greenbrier Weston Thursday night.

Brady Hutson went 2 for 4 from the plate with an RBI and a pair of runs. TCS will have a week off before battling Magnolia next Friday.

Softball

Morgantown: MHS improved to 13-7 with a pair of wins this week. The Mohigans defeated Wheeling Park 8-1 before defeating Preston.

MHS will play a doubleheader against last year’s state runner-up, Washington, on Saturday.

University: The Hawks continued play in Myrtle Beach this week, winning 2-0 on Wednesday over Groveport-Madison and 23-2 over Central High School.

UHS fell 3-2 to James Madison (Va.) to close out the week and will travel to Parkersburg South on Monday.

Preston: The Knights picked up two wins in as many days last week with a 10-9 win over Bridgeport on Wednesday and a 20-1 victory over Liberty on Thursday.

Clay-Battelle: The Cee-Bees fell to 2-11, falling to Trinity Christian in both games of a double header on Thursday.

Trinity Christian: TCS fell to Madonna 23-6 on Wednesday before turning around to earn a pair of victories over Clay-Battelle 8-0 and 18-2.

Boys lacrosse

Morgantown: The Mohigans improved to 8-2 on the season with a 21-3 victory over John Marshall on Thursday evening.

Aydan Shepard scored five goals to lead the MHS, which will play its final home game vs Linsly Tuesday, April 29th at 6:00 p.m.

University: On Tuesday evening, the Hawks improved to 9-2 with a decisive 15-6 victory over Greater Garrett County (Md.).

UHS will visit Fairmont Senior on Wednesday next week.

Girls lacrosse

Morgantown: MHS fell to University 13-4 in its only contest this week, falling to 5-6 on the season.

The Mohigans will travel to Buckhannon-Upshur on Wednesday to avenge an overtime loss from the beginning of the season.

University: The Hawks remained unbeaten in 2025, picking up their tenth win on Thursday with a 13-4 victory over Morgantown.

UHS hosts John Marshall on Friday, then travels to Canon-McMillan (Pa.) on Tuesday and hosts Fairmont Senior on Wednesday.

Tennis
Morgantown (G): MHS defeated Moorefield 7-0 on Thursday in a decisive match. The Mohigans only dropped two total games in all seven matches combined.
