Billy Ray Tennant, 76, of Mooresville, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 5, 2025, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 12, 1948, to the late Donley “Ike” and Roxie Tennant, Bill was the oldest of four children. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Randy and Rodney. He is survived by his only sister, Roxana Cahill (Mike).
Billy Ray married his high school sweetheart, Brenda Kay Brookover, and somehow convinced her to stick by his side for 58 years of love, laughter, traveling and shooting (not each other).
They were blessed with two daughters, Sherri Corder (Denny) of Daybrook, and Mona Tennant (Mike) of Wadestown. The blessings continued with four grandchildren, Tiffany (Corder) Kayla, Allen Corder, Rebecca (Tennant) Smurthwaite, and Kaydee Tennant. They thought the blessings were completed with the addition of four great-grandchildren, JAK, Lucy, Eloise Kayla, and Eli Corder; but, another blessing was added when Boston Terrier, Coco, joined the clan.
Billy Ray was a United States Navy veteran and had retired from Federal #2 Coal Mine.
He was a member of the Jakes Run Assembly of God Church and enjoyed sharing his love for God with everybody he met.
His greatest adventure was being able to shoot sporting clays in all 50 states with the love of his life.
Friends were welcomed from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 7, in the Owen-Neely Funeral Home located at 5894 Mason-Dixon Highway, Blacksville, where funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, with Pastor Doug Steele and Pastor Rob Bennett officiating. Interment followed in the Olive Cemetery at Pentress.
