Janice Suzanne “Suzie” Whetzel, a cherished former school teacher, and beacon of love and friendship, departed from this world peacefully Saturday, April 5, 2025, in Pierpont Center at Fairmont Center. Born June 17, 1949, in Fairmont, Suzie was a woman who enriched the lives of all who knew her.
A daughter of the late David Whetzel, Jr. and Norma Yost Whetzel, and sister to the late Kimberly Whetzel Keenan, Suzie carried the legacy of her family’s kindness and generosity throughout her life.
Her vibrant spirit is survived by her loving brothers, Daniel Whetzel (Paula), and Kevin Whetzel (Valerie), who remember her as the guiding light of their family. Suzie’s warmth and guidance will also be deeply missed by her numerous doting niece and nephews, Steven Whetzel, Chad Whetzel (Roxanne), Jeremy Whetzel (Jenna), Josh Keenan, Melisa Sigley (Claude), Kevin Whetzel, II, and Kyle Whetzel (Kylie), who were touched by her nurturing care.
A dedicated educator, Suzie devoted her career to inspiring young minds in Wetzel County. She shaped many lives with her loving, kind, and friendly demeanor, not just as an exceptional teacher, but also as an active community member who was passionate about her work.
Outside the classroom, Suzie’s love for cooking, sewing, and memorable travels with her mother left a treasure trove of delightful stories and cherished mementos. Her infectious smile, gentle heart, and unwavering support will forever resonate with those she loved. Suzie’s legacy of joy, educators’ wisdom, and sisterly devotion will remain vibrant in the countless lives she touched.
Friends may gather in the McCulla Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, and again Wednesday, April 9, from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
